I’ll draw from this experience to try to provide you with interesting and valuable information. This gives me a great insight into the real needs and frustrations that designers and engineers face every day. Working for a reseller, I now get even more exposure to interesting companies in a huge range of additional fields. While the version I use (2013) is one year behind, all of the functions work and basically look the same.

In these areas I’ve designed machinery, equipment and products involving a huge variety of materials and manufacturing processes. I have worked in a variety of industries including Aerospace, Defense, Consumer Products, and materials handling equipment for everything from logging/mining to food. Before becoming a Technical Consultant, I spent about 10 years using Inventor and Vault as a mechanical designer.

I’m an Autodesk Inventor 2013 Certified Professional and focus on both Inventor and Vault. Some of these personal projects might filter through to my blog posts as most of my hobbies involve design/digital prototyping of some sort. A few that stand out would be: touring around our beautiful country on my motorbike with my wife, hacking my espresso machine to make a better cup, performing CNC conversions on machine tools, and building UAVs. Outside of work I am a man of numerous varied passions and interests. I emigrated here from South Africa when I was 11 years old, eventually marrying a girl from the deep south (of New Zealand.) We have 2 child-substitutes in the form of Sphynx cats, but hope to add some human members to the family at some point too.

Autodesk Viewer supports most 2D and 3D files, including DWG, STEP, DWF, RVT. When setting up the depth from the point, you can use the projected views as your selections.īreakout views are a great way to show internal detail of parts and assemblies. Through part is the easiest to set up, simply pick the components that you want to breakout view to go through.

The depth can be specified from a point, a sketch, to a hole and through the part. If you did your sketch correctly, it should automatically identify the sketch inside of the view and prompt you to specify the depth. When you’re done with your sketch finish the sketch and issue the breakout view command. The breakout of you can have any shape and size just make sure it’s closed profile. It’s important that the sketch be in the base view at self and not at the sheet level of the drawing. Make sure that you activate the base view by clicking inside of it then you go to sketch a new sketch. Breakout views allow you to see into a drawing view through a defined area you specify.Īfter you have created your base view the first thing you want to do is create a sketch inside of that base you. Breakout view might be one of the least used but coolest drawing view in Autodesk Inventor.
